CAFU

BIOGRAPHY

CAFU (Carlos Alberto Fernandez Urbano) started drawings comic-books at a very young age, with a couple issues of Intimidators for Image Comics. He also did an album for Adonis / Dargaud in France, a still unpublished adaptation of Quo Vadis.

His first work for DC Comics were some pages for Manhunter #30. After that, he moved to Marvel to do Marvel Adv. The Avengers #15, #18, and Black Panther #34-#35, while also helping on X-Men: Die by the Sword #3-#4. He returned to DC to do the Vixen: Return of the Lion miniseries that would be his first collaboration with Santi Arcas. And next he’d do the 11 chapters of the Captain Atom co-feature in Action Comics, again with Santi and in some issues, inks by Bit.

After penciling War of the Supermen #3, and part of issue 4 and signing an exclusivity contract with the company, CAFU launched the critically acclaimed T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents series for DC Comics written by Nick Spencer.

After CAFU was named by DC Comics as one of the artists responsible for the New-52, it was decided that he’d be the artist on the new Grifter book. After that, he moved to Blackhawks, and returned to T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents for a “farewell” to the book in the last issue of its second miniseries.

He then moved to Valiant as an exclusive creator, company where he worked on books like Unity; Rai, Imperium; Ninjak, Rapture, and Life and Death of Toyo Harada.

CAFU is currently an exclusive artist for Marvel, where he, aside of several collaborations with Marvel Studios with illustrations for Spider-Man: No Way Home, Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and others, he’s drawn books like Jane Foster: Valkyrie or the acclaimed Books of Korvak saga in Iron Man.

He’s the current artist on Venom for Marvel.
